Got same problem with 2013 XL seems starter was trying to earth thru 2mm wire lots of smoke after numerous attempts to start! Then 3 mins later starts first time. Local garage investigating Friday, will keep you posted.
Thanks Ford tells me to bring the truck in when I have the problem but it never acts up when I take it to them. I saw on the internet some people with the same problem say to change the starter because when Ford checks the voltage it is ok but they claim their is some type of interference going from the starter to the crank sensor. Please let me how it works out for you. Ford change the computer and I still have the same problem. ThanksFrank
Ford have a software fix for this problem, I had it intermittent and the software upgrade fixed it. No problem since
@chevyI had same not cranking problem with my 2002 Ford Ranger xlt v6 3.0l truck. Battery, voltage regulator, and alternator all checked out good. I put a new battery in it then l put an ignition control coil module on it and solved cranking problems
Having battery drain 2015 XLT
I have the same problem with trying to start, I think there is a problem with the computer not recognising the key. Have had new keys still problem. I lift the bones and disconnect the earth lead from battery for 30sec then reconnect always starts. Ford do not want to know abou
Check your foot brake pedal if it's hard and will not depress all the way it will not start take the hand brake off put it in neutral rock the vehicle until foot brake depresses put back in to park and it will start.
Any reason why the brake pedal hardens? I'm having similar issues.
@Local MECHSorry late getting back to you, the hard brake pedal is telling you that it's registered that your transmission has not entered into parking mode correctly and will not allow you to start the vehicle.
@Ford mechanicWhat is the quick solution as it happened to me a couple of days ago. I kept moving the gear lever and eventually it did start but it was embarrassing as nobody could leave the car park.
@RossiWhile your in the vehicle gentle push into park remove ignition key lock doors wait 5 to 10 seconds unlock doors as though your entering the vehicle then restart ,it should have reset.
@Ford mechanicCheers I will try that if it does it again 👍
Having the same issue won’t start and break pedal won’t depress. Per mechanic no error on scanning but need to replace run/start relay, start relay and pcm relay…
@ArvinThe error is the parking sensor, the ecu as not registered that the vehicle is in park mode, switching of and locking the doors for a couple of minutes resets the ecu.
I have exactly this problem. Brake is hard to press and steering locked. It will then not start though it turns over. I seem to just turn it on and off and put it in and out of park and release handbrake etc till finally it suddenly starts and is perfect for a week or two.
Mine is manual i was driving and the engine went off abruptly AND it refuses To start again
Same here wat was the problem
2.2 ford ranger 5 speed not starting it just cranking what could be a problem
I had a 2013 Ranger with the same problem and I took it to a dealer in WA 4 times and they could not find the problem. I rang ford and told me if I could take to we’re I bought the car which was in Swan Hill in Vic. I took it to them and they fixed in less than a hour and said if it played up again they told me what would need replacing but never had a problem since.
Hey mate, sooo what did they do in swan hill to rectify the problem ?
Mine (BT50 2012) will crank for about 2 or 3 seconds and then cut the start sequence. If I wait 30 seconds it will usually start. If I wait 20 seconds or less it won't. (It also kept going into limp mode - but probably unrelated). It will do it after being driven generally i.e. not first thing in the morning - but will do it after sitting for three hours after driving. It's driving me insane.Mazda reckoned it was the timing chain and charged me outrageous prices for parts. It didn't fix it. Then they said it was the Cam Position Sensor and changed it and charged me double for the new sensor (as this ford part has a mazda mark-up of over 100%). It didn't fix it. It has now been in the Mazda service centre for 4 full days. I have no idea what will fix it.
Put it into neutral first wait a couple of seconds before you place it into the park position, before you turn the engine off depress the foot brake and release you should hear a click if you do you then know the gearbox is in the park position, if no click put it back into neutral then back to park, then depress the brake and release you need to hear the click, other wise park is not engaged.
